Trakai is inseparable from Grand Duke Vytautas of Lithuania (1392-1430), who left a deep imprint on the country's history. In 2007, the Trakai District Municipality established a special award for the most distinguished people of the region, symbolised by the three-degree nomination of the Grand Duke Vytautas the Great of Lithuania. The awards are traditionally presented on the day of the restoration of the Lithuanian state, on the 16th of February. We are very proud that this year the papercuttings master Klaidas Navickas has been nominated for this award for the development of the general culture of the population, the promotion of ethno-cultural traditions, the development of the culture of national minorities, and the implementation of cultural initiatives.
