Klaidas Navickas is a folk artist and a craftsman of paper cuttings. He was born on 11th of October in 1962 in Raseiniai town. He is a lawyer and works as public officer. He lives in Grigiskes (Vilnius). Klaidas used to carve wood and metal, but in 1988 he started making paper cuttings. In 1991 the artist became a member of Lithuanian Folk Artists’ Society. In 2005 he was acknowledged the status of the Art Creator. And in 2009 Klaidas was acknowledged as master of Traditional Folk Art.
Klaidas is a very active participant of regional, national and international folk art exhibitions. He held over 10 personal exhibition in Lithuania. Klaidas’ paper cuttings were exhibited in Warsaw and Gdansk (Poland), Minsk (Belorussia), Mohyliv-Podilskyi (Ukraine), Moscow and Saint Petersburg (Russia), Linz (Austria), EXPO-2005 Japan, EXPO-2010 China, and Philadelphia (USA). Klaidas has published three paper cutting albums.
Since 2002 Klaidas has been participating in Vilnius municipality programme of Fine Arts and Ethnographical Trades and Fairs. He participates in various cultural events in Vilnius: Capital days, Balticum, Fair of Kaziukas, etc. Klaidas was a participant of three Lithuanian Song and Dance Celebrations.
Since 2003 Klaidas has a workshop in J.Basanavicius str. 29 in Vilnius. Schoolchildren, students and everyone who is interested in folk art are welcomed to Klaidas’ workshop where the artist presents carving and paper cutting history and techniques. Also visitors have an opportunity try paper cutting or making woodprints themselves.
Klaidas is a regular participant of national folk art contest “Golden Garland”. Klaidas was awarded with the 3rd place diploma in Vilnius region in 2005 and 2007. He was awarded with the 2nd place diploma in 2012 and 2014. And in 2006 and 2010 he was awarded as the best fine art craftsman in Vilnius region.
In 2018 Folk artist and paper cuttings master Klaidas Navickas received Ministry of Culture Award for presenting and fostering traditional culture.
